Magic Shop Owners Session 13
Session Notes

Facing Vermesh

- The party started in the Duchess' rooms
- They then returned to the corridors and spent some time inspecting the doors to the other rooms putting off entering the Duke's room believing Vermesh would be there
- They broke down the door to Orsino's room to find a bed with posts of slithering snakes and lots of sailing paraphernalia
- Jatumal opened a bottle with a ship inside and sniffed it appreciating the boat smell
- Derek went to inspect a painting with a large ship inside and it shot a cannonball at him. He managed to avoid it
- Pavnutia the vampire and Aldo the mutant child were sent inside. They found themselves in a painted sea as the boat reloaded its canons, they quickly hopped back out
- Breadwig threw a cover over the painting and they took it with them to use later
- They looted the room
- Next they entered Viola's room which was covered in symbols. The symbols were wards against corruption
- Removing one from the wall resulted in a small red worm popping out
- Maia quickly covered it back over
- They read Viola's journal which told them that she hated the red priests and the corruption they brought
- Everyone carved the symbols into their armour and clothes. Geog covered himself in papers with the symbols on. They drew a symbol on Aldo's one elf ear to see if the anti-corruption symbols would return that to normal too
- They also found her wardrobe stacked with weapons which they took their pick of. The Magic users restocked on daggers
- They continued onto the Duke's room which had a fang shaped handle and worm frame
- They opened the door and sent the Motley Magpie in. Without any anti-corruption symbols white ghost worms came from the door frame and zapped him. He fell to the floor paralysed
- Then Geog folded one of the symbol papers into an aeroplane and threw it at the Motley Magpie. The ghost worms faded away. They each crossed the threshold and with their wards were not affected
- Three red priests surrounded a dirty bathtub. The rest of the room was covered in runes and candles were arranged on the floor
- They talked to the priests for a while and asked them what they were doing. They explained that they were guarding the bath because it was the portal to where the Duke was summoning Vermesh
- The party asked if they could go through and see how Duke was doing. The priests refused because they didn't know them
- Meanwhile Stinkcat tried to throw a bola to silence one but it bounced off the door frame hit them and tied them up. The priests were confused but didn't question it
- The others ran in and attacked and didn't have too much trouble fighting the priests
- Then, after recovering, Stinkcat put their hand into the bath. Mud enveloped them and they were transported them to a sealed room
- Inside the room was filled with slaughtered animals surrounding a girl who was chained to the ground. She had a crystal dagger in her chest
- The others followed Stinkcat
- Stinkcat got close to the girl. She said don't remove the dagger and to place a hand on her
- Vermesh appeared when the girl was touched. He claimed he would give great powers if the dagger was driven into the chest and the girl, who was the princess Bianca, was killed completing the ritual
- To do this Vermesh required that you place a hand in his mouth while this happened as assurance the dagger would not be removed. The Duke was dead on the floor with an arm missing
- Pavnutia offered to do it since she could regrow her limbs
- Instead she removed the dagger banishing Vermesh back to his realm. As she did her arm was bitten off
- Bianca was greatful and said she wanted to leave the keep and never come back. She didn't care what became of it and wanted to stop the red priests doing similar things elsewhere.
- Stinkcat took the dagger which seemed as if it could cut through practically anything and they broke the weak looking floor. In doing this they fell into the Duke's rooms

Return to Whiterock
- The group made their way out of the keep
- Passing the bonfire where the survivors of the keep were gathered a child said "That's them, they killed our parents," and a sailor said "They sacrificed our friends to that vampire."
- The survivors were on edge and ready to fight but Breadwig managed to convince them that it wasn't worth more death for them to fight. The survivors were reluctant, but were glad to see them go
- It took a few days sailing to return to Whiterock. Along the way they read some of the books they had found
- The Magic users were particularly interested in the "Power Unlocked" book
- Derek tamed a seagull by saying he would pay it in food
- Geog's living armour had begun to hurt but the carapace that the armour was made of was tough. Breadwig used the crystal dagger to make incisions at the joints to release some pressure. A pink fleshy substance came out of the holes and Geog felt better for now
