The party met back up in the Gawping Cod. Inside, they overheard talk of eyeless red-robed priests taking over the Obsidian Keep and some great battle happening there, which ended in disaster. They also met a Beast Master called Derek, who wanted to travel to the keep because he believed there was a giant seagull there that he could tame. He tagged along with the party, although they were still a little unsure of him. Out in the town, people were packing up from the recent celebrations. The party collected their ignid weapons from Eadan the blacksmith and bought some new enchanted gear from Ceana the enchantress. Jatumal ordered 5 disintegration arrows for next time they were in town, and Sphonyx ordered a disintegration staff and a paralysis staff while buying an unstable first attempt disintegration wand from Ceana. Jatumal also bought some cupid arrows from Ceana and an exquisite bow from Harald the fletcher.

After this, the group set sail for the Obsidian Keep. Along the way, Derek tried unsuccessfully to tame some seagulls, and the party questioned him about who he was and why he had come with them. He explained he was from a small island where he and his father used to farm seagulls, and he wanted to find the largest seagull in the world, the king seagull. It wasn't long before the calm waters began to get rougher, the sky turned red, and a great storm began. Through the storm, the party could see a large island with sheer cliff faces on all sides, apart from a small cove. They sailed the boat into the cove where a series of wrecks and ruins were strewn before them.

They carefully made their way through the cove, first coming across a capsized cutter with a woman sitting upon it, fishing. She explained her ship had been struck by red lightning, and she had been stuck there for a few days and was just trying to survive. She was a maid named Rosetta. They invited her aboard. She explained there were some swords on the boat and tossed an ornate one with a coral handle to Geog, who slipped. The sword fell into the cold waters below, but Jatumal performed a perfect dive and retrieved the sword, claiming it for himself. Along the way to the next point of interest, a bottle bobbed in the water. Stinkcat jumped in for it, forgetting they couldn't swim, but was fortunate that Jatumal tied a rope around their waist just before they decided to jump. The party were able to pull them back in with the bottle. It had a note inside from a man named Bruno telling his love to marry his brother because it didn't matter now, since he was clinging to a rock for his life.

When they had finished reading the note, they came across another wreck from which they could hear a voice echoing from within. They shouted over to the voices, who quickly asked for help. Shrinking their boat, which they had now named The Kraken, for manoeuvrability, they pulled up to the wreck. Breadwig and Stinkcat climbed onto the hull and looked into the hole. They could see two sailors huddled on the other side of a pit of electric eels. First, the party suggested swinging on a rope to get across, but the sailors didn't seem up for that, so Breadwig and Stinkcat tried using ten foot poles to poke the eels away, but they just swam around them. Instead, they used the poles to make a ramp over the pool and asked the sailors to climb up. The first easily got across, but the second stumbled and fell halfway. His body was shocked, and he slowly sank into the water. The sailor who was left seemed scared of the storms and eels but happily took the offer to come aboard, although he was upset his friend Filipe had died. He introduced himself as Antony.

Continuing to row into the cove, they saw a huge turtle swimming on the surface of the water. When it saw the boat, it raised its head to look, revealing a human face. Derek tempted it aboard with some rations. The party quickly discovered it could not talk but understood what they were saying and could nod and shake its head. It agreed to work with them, and Derek called him Turtle Face Man. Soon, they heard a singing voice inside the skull of a giant anglerfish. Geog began to try and harmonise with the voice, and the rest of the party joined in. They failed completely, angering the voice inside, who began shouting at them for disturbing her. They shouted into the mouth of the anglerfish, asking why she was there. She said she was called Angelica and lived there. They asked her if she wanted anything, and she said no, but she could provide them with information for a kiss. They convinced Antony to go in, and Angelica began singing again. Antony ran into the darkness. The party shouted, asking for the information, but Angelic claimed she had still not received her kiss, so they started attacking her. They pulled the boat closer so they could see into the mouth of the anglerfish. Stinkcat threw their silence bolas, missing. Jatumal got a solid shot on her, and Maia finished her off with a shot from her sling before she could react. Inside, they found Antony dazed and walking around in circles. Maia slapped him to get him out of the spell he had no idea what had happened. They searched around the skull, finding a small chest underneath Angelic, who was half octopus, half woman. Inside it were 77 silver forks and 23 jade statuettes. They took the chest aboard The Kraken.

Along the way to their next destination, which was a collapsed lighthouse, they saw a white body floating face down in the water. It was close enough that they could reach it from the side of the boat. Maia tried to loot it, but it let out a plume of green gas, making her choke. Luckily, the rest of the crew were not nearby. At the lighthouse, Maia used her levitation boot to carry Stinkcat so they could look down into the crumbled tower from above. Inside were five dog-sized crabs, each with six eyes, picking at corpses in black armour. Maia cast her light spell to blind them, and the two jumped down, making short work of the now blind crabs. The armour was rusted and worn, but one of the corpses had a black iron key around their neck, which they took along with the crabs. Back on The Kraken Rosetta, the maid agreed to cook them some crab sticks and cakes for food.

Soon, they approached two masts that rose from the water. On the seabed, they could see figures shuffling, but something glistening at their feet. Derek rode Turtle Face Man down to the bottom of the water, revealing that the figures were twelve skeletons. He quickly made his way up to the surface, not knowing how to fight them. The party then thought they might gain the ability to breathe underwater from kissing Turtle Face Man, so they drew straws to see who would do that. Turtle Face Man looked apprehensive as Jatumal kissed him. Nothing seemed to happen. Then they decided that they could take Turtle Face Man down to the bottom of the water with them and then since he had a greater lung capacity suck the air from him to stay down for longer. Jatumal rode Turtle Face Man back down. Snuck up close to the skeletons and saw the coins at their feet. Scooped up some coins and quickly hoped back on Turtle Face Man sucking some air from him. He started to go blue in the face as they reached the surface, but survived.

There was a red glow coming from a nearby cave in the cliff face, which the party decided to investigate next. On the way, a small rowboat approached with 4 sailors on board. They each had cutlasses drawn and threatened the party to give them food. Instead, they offered to hire the sailors. They said they would feed them as long as they remained in their service. The sailors agreed and introduced themselves as Leo, Donato, Marco and Paul. The cave from which the red glow came was a small squeeze in the cliff face. Maia used her levitation boots and took Stinkcat with her to investigate. Maia's claustrophobia wasn't a major issue as they did not have to go far to find a red lantern floating in a pile of debris. The lantern seemed to clear the fog in front of it for quite a distance. When they got back to The Kraken, they mounted the lantern on the bow.

Next, they travelled towards a huge statue carved into the cliff face, but on the way, they were attacked by giant crabs. Stinkcat managed to use on oar to flick the crabs onboard. On the deck, everyone tried to attack the crabs, but their shells proved to be incredibly strong. Only Geog from the party was able to cut through it with Darkfire. However, the sailors drew their swords and, in unison, skewered the crabs, killing them. The colossal statue had a hand missing, which protruded from the water. In his hand was a golden staff. Maia flew over and began trying to break the staff free with her mace. As she did, a light shone through the storm, revealing some skeletons on the seabed trying to dig up a treasure chest. It wasn't long before Maia had broken the staff loose. Then the group waited for the Skeletons to finish digging up the chest. Meanwhile, back on the ship, Sphonyx and Breadwig investigated the staff and determined that it would dispel corruption. Derek decided to use it on Turtle Face Man, causing him to disappear. The party were shocked and this thwarted their plan to use Turtle Face Man to retrieve the chest. After they had finished, Sphonyx cast an illusion to make the skeletons believe the sea was holy, and they all fell to the ground. Luckily, the water wasn't that deep and the party were able to quickly swim down and collect the chest, which had 7 black pearls and 6000 silver pieces inside.

The party next came across a shack on a small island. There were two men in yellow robes on the island. They shouted across to them men, asking if they were okay. The men were okay but blamed all that had happened on the people of the Obsidian keep. They had a rather defeatist attitude, but didn't seem to want any help, so the party moved on. Travelling to the next point of interest, then a sailor dropped into the water nearby, covered in blood. Two flying creatures swooped down at him, pecking as he screamed. The party began taking shots at the creatures as Breadwig threw a rope into the water for the man to climb up onto the Kraken with. He grabbed hold, but the flying creatures kept trying to get him. Breadwig managed to use a magic missile to distract the creatures, and the man climbed on board. Seeing how many people were onboard, the creatures flew away. Breadwig used his healing wand to heal the man who introduced himself as Ivano. He had been plucked from the boat with the other sailors the party had taken in and was happy to see them.

Continuing deeper into the cover, the next thing the pay encountered was a makeshift raft with a family onboard. They were happy to take their chances on the raft but asked them to take a toy boat made by the children to their grandfather Oskor, who was in a hut on the shore. The part was accepted. As they made their way further inland, they found more and more debris and heard a scream across the water as they approached three row boats that had been tied together with a single old man onboard. The man struggled to speak and was missing a tongue. He gestured at his mouth, and the party understood. Breadwig used his healing wand to restore the tongue. The man explained he had lost it in the storm, but he did not know quite how. The party were suspicious of him but provided him some crab in exchange for letters between the illusionists and the captain of the sacred flame, Marcus. It appeared the illusionists had arranged for the Keep to be attacked.

The final thing the party encountered before reaching the shore was a mass of tadpoles that all seemed to be fused together and unable to do much of any use. A member of the group tried to stick a spear through the mass and made a hole full of dead tadpoles. The party moved on and was soon on the pebbled beach. They took in the sights. The beach was strewn with half-buried ruins, shacks and tents. They prepared to make their ascent to the keep.
