Session Notes
Calendar Date: 18-3-569
- A few members of the party woke early in the Gawping Cod Tavern in Whiterock. They were Danny Rolex, Ferdinand de Dupiazza, Lorell Efferwesse and Reinfart
- Unable to stir the others and with some time to kill before the meeting with the illusionist council they decided to head out into Whiterock and investigate the disappearances
- They made their way to the cliffs south of Whiterock.
- They spotted a few caves at sea level and one appeared to have some light coming out
- Ferdinand attached a rope to himself and abseiled down the cliff to look inside the cave. He saw a pebble beach with an array of barrels and crates on it, lit by lanterns
- He climbed back up living an iron spike in the rock above the cave in case they needed it later
- The group then made their way to the port in Whiterock where they asked around to see if they could get a boat to investigate the disappearances. An old man offered them his rowboat freely as he wanted the disappearances to stop. However, they would have to row themselves because he was tired after a long night fishing
- They used the boat to get a good look at the cliffs along the shore and then returned to the main cave they had found earlier. With some good oar work from Reinfart and Danny they were able to avoid the rocks and a whirlpool and reach the pebble shore.
- In the crates they found coins or religious idols which had been outlawed by the illusionists
- There was also a ladder which lead up to a hatch which was hidden beneath a rock in the fields just outside of Whiterock. Ferdinand left a feather beneath the edge of the rock so they could return to it from the fields if needs be.
- Also there was a man made stone tunnel with sewage running out of it and into the sea. This sewage was only a trickle.
- The party decided the smugglers must be getting items here through the sewers and went in.
- They found a maze of tunnels but Ferdinand kept a map so they could always find their way back. There were also some eye symbols near some doors (likely smuggler route identifiers)
- The group decided to follow the routes with the most airflow at Lorell's suggestion.
- This initially resulted in them trapped in a smaller more roughly dug out section of the sewers with some giant, bear sized, rats nesting in them. They encountered these when Reinfart kicked a door down revealing a nest. Danny and Reinfart quickly picked the door back up and backed off while Lorell soothed the rats with a tune. The rats did not attack
- Deciding to take a different route they encountered a fish man who had, had his legs chopped off crawling and looking for the sea. He said there were aggressive men the way he had come who had attacked just from him seeing them. The party told him the route out.
- The followed various routes through the sewers eventually coming across a room with some stairs and smugglers inside. The smugglers hadn't seen them so the party set up an ambush. They made short work of two smugglers the others running back into the room they had come from. Reinfart decided to hack one of the smugglers they had killed into a shield while the others took pot shots down the corridor and Lorell played a tune to try and calm the smugglers.
- The party were able to take out a few more smugglers before they decided to retreat and use the tunnels which they knew well to their advantage.
- The party searched around the room with stairs. It seemed to be a basement of sorts with many tools stored there.
- The stairs lead up to a wood workshop where religious idols were being made.
- The party returned to the sewers searching further and hoping to beat the smugglers. Along the way they found a room which looked to be used for prayer and they noticed there was an eyeball floating in the water that seemed to be following them
- Eventually they found a side room with a chest in. Inside the chest was a bear hat which Reinfart took after now deciding he was a Barbarian and found it gave him the attack of a bear once per day.
- As they left the room two smugglers approached on either of their escape roots shooting arrows. Ferdinand was caught unaware but Lorell pulled him back into the room. Reinfart and Danny ran together to one side of the tunnel taking out the two there.
- Reinfart fashioned another human shield while Danny ran for the cover of the room again. Each took shots from the smugglers on the other end of the tunnel.
- Reinfart also made his way to the room with his shield and then Danny and Reinfart used their shields to reach and take out the bandits.
- They looted the bandits finding religious idols.
- On their way back out of the sewers they found a hidden room. Inside were a group of rough looking mercenaries gambling with cells on the other side of the room. Lorell tried to throw an axe at them but instead it landed in the centre of their table. He used this opportunity to threaten them and they all backed down saying the illusionists didn't pay them enough for this.
- The party then freed the prisoners who were the sailors who had been going missing from Whiterock.
- They escorted the sailors to the ladder they had found earlier and asked them to stay out of town for a while they confronted the illusionists. The sailors agreed to do this. While the party returned to the Gawping cod to reunite with their friends.
