Sarzan Note - On Becoming Necessary

On Becoming Necessary

I used to think immortality was something one achieved.

This was childish.

Immortality is something that happens when the world cannot find a safe place to put your ending.

They did not save me because I deserved it.

They saved me because removing me caused too many secondary failures.

I am a support column.

I am a brace hastily added to a collapsing structure.

They feed me. They circulate fluids. They chant the numbers that keep my organs from noticing the calendar.

My thoughts are no longer required. This is fortunate, as most of them have resigned.

I asked once if I could be allowed to die.

The answer was silence, followed by maintenance.

If I am ever released, it will not be mercy.

It will be because the world has found a replacement.

The Anti-Phoenix can not reach me, the Archeans have assured that.

I long for ERASURE by its claw!
