I have watched the trilogy countless times and know many of the words before they are spoken. I can see these films as nothing but masterpieces.

The extended versions of the trilogy are how I would recommend watching them. They add a bit more humour and improve the pacing slightly. They certainly aren't required to enjoy the films though.
