Carl's Doomsday Scenario Review

This is the quickest I have read a book of this length in years. I absolutely tore through Dungeon Crawler Carl and went straight onto this book and read it even more quickly.
It continues to expand on the ideas of the first book adding new concepts and giving more character depth. The general concept is the same but it has been switched up enough to keep the book both fresh and entertaining.
The introduction of quests and more NPCs, as well as the ruined city setting really added an extra layer to the book. Floor three felt less like an empty series of corridors with some enemies placed in it and more alive. I think both the more empty earlier floors and this more fleshed out third floor were intentional though. I suspect the floors are supposed to get more complex as they go deeper and more funding goes into them from the corporations. The changes is good though.
Donut and Carl continue to exploit the systems of the dungeon in fun and interesting ways and get a pet too which I suspect will grow into a big part of the story. Throughout their quests and adventures they also have more personal character development moments.
I do feel like something that I enjoyed from the first book is missing. Maybe it is because it isn't as fresh or it is because the stakes feel a little lower but it wasn't quite as good as the first book. Still this is a great and if you liked the first I am sure you will like it. I will be moving onto the third straight away.
