Values I Live By
Below are some values I try to live by. These are things I believe in and would like to maintain:
- Don't let other people's opinions stop you from being yourself. You will never be happy if you are not whole. Say what you believe. Do not fear rejection, it is better to be rejected than not know. Talk to people, make eye contact, don't be timid
- Solitude is important. You need time to think alone. The answers to your problems are often within if you allow yourself to ruminate on them.
Digital Minimalism: Solitude can be banished in even the quietest settings if you allow input from other minds to intrude
- You can change. Become the person you want to be, don't let inertia hold you back.
- Don't allow yourself to become addicted to things. Addiction leads to negative processes. Any app with a feed is designed to be addictive, gambling is addictive, drugs are addictive. Don't do these things
- Everything ends, don't hold onto things or try to claw them back after they have passed. Equally allow new things to start and make the most of what you do have
- Live in the moment, what is happening right now is the most important. Embrace it and make the most of it instead of focusing too much on the past or the future
- Community, friends, and family should always be respected and supported
- Say the dangerous things, they are more interesting. To an extent anyway, I always worried to much before I spoke. Learning to speak out more was valuable to me
- You have to earn what you want, people won't hand it too you
- Everything in moderation. Don't get too pulled into one thing. You can end up too focused in one area
- You need to have good leisure time as well as time working. It is good for your brain
- Be open to new ideas, approaches, and ways of thinking. You can learn a lot from watching and listening
- Always try to resolve problems diplomatically first. As soon as you start fighting or arguing you have already lost
