Recommended TTRPG Resources
The best resources I have come across for running and playing TTRPGs mostly OSE but a lot of these are system neutral too.
Random Generators
- Donjon - Has a bunch of random generators, the dungeon one is pretty good.
- DNGGEN - This is designed for Mork Borg another OSR TTRPG but generates good concise dungeon ideas which can be used for anything really.
- Domesday Book - Generates demographics of towns based on the Domesday Book survey that was ordered by William the Conqueror at Christmas in 1085.
Monsters (Mostly OSE/OSR Specific)
I love monsters and like to use a variety in my games so things don't get stale so having some good sources of inspiration is important to me.
- The Monster Overhaul by Skerples - Quite possibly the most inspirational TTRPG book I have. Has lots of great ways to switch up how you run monsters.
- Creature Compendium - Another inspirational one with a great variety in monsters and it's free.
- The Monsters Know What They're Doing - A great blog where Keith analyses different monster for D&D 5th edition to workout how to make them fun. This information can be used for most editions though.
- Random Esoteric Creature Generator - A useful tool for making your own monsters.
Adventures and Settings
I mostly make my own stuff for games in this department but there are a few good ones I have used.
- Raiding the Obsidian Keep - A fun slightly weird OSE adventure that is easy to run straight from the book.
- Veins of the Earth - A creepy subterranean setting which has loads of creativity but doesn't seem to be officially available anymore.
- Stonehell - A well written megadungeon that manages to be concise in its details while giving enough information to fuel your imagination.
- Tenfootpole's blog - Has a good list of the best old school adventures that he has played that are almost always excellent.
Youtubers
- Mystic Arts - Does incredibly well explained and simple to follow advice on running games.
- Bob World Builder - Has a bunch of good videos and ideas about running TTRPGs generally
- Ginny Di - More good videos and ideas about running TTRPGs
- Questing Beast - Reviews for OSR TTRPG content, he also has a good newsletter.
